Review | Bifesta Eye Makeup Remover

Thursday, 28 November 2019

Unlike cleansing waters, milks, creams, balms and even oils, I hardly venture into trying different eye makeup removers because I don't use them as frequent as I need to; I'd rather use a single product to remove all of my makeup that I have been wearing throughout the day at one go when I shower.

However, there are times when I don't want to get into the shower (where I line all my oil-based cleansers on my bathroom shelf) right away but desperately want to at least remove my waterproof eye makeup. This is where having a separate eye makeup remover can actually be helpful. Before I go in-depth into this product, let's get into some basic information first.

What you need to know! It's a gentle yet powerful water-based eye makeup remover.
  • For eyes and lips
    • Dual effect of water layers containing lotion-based cleansing ingredients and oil-based emollient layers effectively lift and remove waterproof mascara and eyeliner effortlessly without rubbing and tugging.
  • Contains vitamin B and E derivatives for added skin nutrients
    • Contains 2 types of moisturising ingredients which moisturize and is gentle to your delicate eye areas and eyelashes.
  • Colourant-free, fragrance-free, paraben-free, hypoallergenic formulation
  • Skin patch and allergy tested.
  • Contains Alkanediol (Pentylene Glycol) as moisturising agent.
How to Use:
  1. Shake well before use
  2. Dispense some suitable amount of product onto cotton pad and wipe gently. Rubbing is not required as product works by lifting makeup rather than melting it away.
  3. To remove stubborn mascara, hold cotton pad against eye for awhile before gently wiping off
  4. Remove contact lenses before use.
Capacity: 145ml - about 4 months of daily use with cotton pads.

Ingredients list: Water, Mineral Oil, Cyclopentasiloxane, Hydrogenated Polyisobutene, Alcohol, PEG-400, PCA Ethyl Cocoyl Arginate, Disodium EDTA, Pentylene Glycol, Panthenol, Tocopheryl Acetate, PEG-6 Caprylic/Capric Glycerides, Hydroxypropyltrimonium Hyaluronate

PACKAGING

Basically, the product comes with a plastic cover to seal the whole product and there are only Japanese product descriptions printed on the actual bottle. The Manufacturing Date is printed at the bottom of the bottle itself and the format is MFGDDMMYY (Day-Month-Year).

The product doesn't come with a pump or anything; just regular screw cap with a simple stopper at the neck of the bottle.

As you  can see, the product is a dual-phase makeup remover so it is imperative for you to shake the bottle to mix the oil and water parts of the product so you can remove all kinds of makeup you have on.

APPLICATION

I'm going to attempt to remove some waterproof makeup products that I have and here are some that I've been obsessing a lot lately; Benefit Cosmetics They're Real Mascara, NYX Lingerie Eye Tint, Shu Uemura Matte Supreme Matte and Benefit Cosmetics Benetint Cheek and Lip Stain as I'm all about long-wearing makeup these days.

I have swatched all the products at the back of my hand to show you how well this eye and lip makeup remover work!

I've dispensed some of the product directly onto the textured cotton pad, usually 3 to 4 drops and just let it sit on the products (on my eyelids) for a good 10 seconds.

Then, slowly wipe the pad away from the eyelid. As this makeup remover is quite watery, be careful not to let the product go into your eyes.

THOUGHTS

As you can see in the above photo, the only makeup item that were not completely removed are the eye, cheek and lip tints with their colours still visible on skin but as for the rest of the makeup, not even the slightest hint can be seen so I do think this oil cleanser does its job quite well. I bet most of you know that the products that aren't removed are quite known for their long-lastingness which is why I would rather to simply use cleansing oils to remove them altogether.

Overall, I give this product 4/5. I still do like this eye and lip makeup remover even after trying several other removers mostly from Korean brands as this product basically removes all traces of other eye makeup that I have.

When I'm not using base makeup, there is no need to use cleansing oil but I still need to remove waterproof eye makeup. For that I will use cleansing wipes or sheets to remove my sunscreen for the day and pour several drops of this remover onto the sheet and simply wipe away my mascara, eyeliner, and even brow mousse.

This makeup remover does not irritate, make my eyes blur or anything. Also I found that a little goes a long way with this product making it considerably affordable with the amount of product I get. I've recently finished my first bottle and now I'm on my second one with the newer packaging design.

You might have noticed that this product (as with most Japanese skincare products available in drugstores) contains mineral oil.  This may deter some from getting it but I personally don't have any issues with that ingredient as I'm actually more concerned with fragrance that may potentially irritate the skin.

I guess that's all from me and I hope this review helps you in some way but do let me know if you have any thought by leaving comments down below. Annyeong~

Review | AllYoung X Elle Clean Beauty Foaming Facial Cleanser and Moist Beauty Iris Water-Like Oil

Thursday, 14 March 2019

Last month, I've received another package from AllYoung Malaysia containing two products from Elle™ a brand used by AllYoung under license from Hachette Filipacchi Presse SA, France. I wasn't at all aware that Elle™ actually have a skincare division but being part of probably the largest magazine publishing business focusing on fashion, beauty, health and entertainment that just might be possible. Let me know if you have further information because the related websites are in Chinese so feel free to throw in some legit information.

Now, the first product that I want to get into is the face cleanser.

Elle Clean Beauty Foaming Facial Cleanser

Product Description:

The fine-textured foam contains 30% of Amino Acid ingredient which gently cleanses pores, moisturises and locks hydration within your skin. It will leave you with a radiant, smooth and glowing complexion.

Features:
  • Refreshing Oceanic fragrance
  • Chondrus Crispus Extract; rich in collagen which forms an invisible protective film on skin.
  • Add-in 30% Amino Acid ingredient; helps to remove dirt easily, lock in moisture and slow down the loss of water from the skin. Provides intense skin moisture for long-lasting hydration.

Ingredients list:
Aqua, Sodium Lauroyl Glutamate, Propanediol, Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate, PEG-32, PEG-6, Sodium Methyl Cocoyl Taurate, PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Disodium Cocoyl Glutamate, Phenoxyethanol, Caprylyl Glycol, Fragrance, Glycerin, Buddleja Davidii Extract, Thymus Vulgaris (Thyme) Extract, Niacinamide, Calcium Pantothenate, Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate, Tocopheryl Acetate, Pyridoxine HCL, Maltodextrin, Sodium Starch Octenylsuccinate, Silica, Panthenol, Hexylene Glycol, Fructose, Glucose, Sucrose, Urea, Dextrin, Alanine, Chondrus Crispus Extract, Sodium Lauroyl Sarcosinate, Sodium Hyaluronate.

How to Use:
Apply sufficient amount of foaming cleanser onto hands with some water and work it till it lathers. Gently massage lather onto skin and leave it on skin for few minutes. Rinse thoroughly with water. For day and night use.

Capacity: 105g

Packaging:

The cleanser came in its own box with a very minimal design; white with simple product descriptions on it. Note that the Period After Opened is only 6 months.

There's ingredients list printed on the label at one of the sides and the manufacturing and expiration dates are printed at the bottom of the box.

The same goes to the tube that houses the product; white and simple product descriptions on it while at the back of the tube, there's instruction on how to use and expiration date printed on. Basically, you can just throw out or better yet, recycle the box right away because all the information you need is right on the tube.

Unlike most facial cleansers I've encountered so far, this comes with twist cap which is somewhat inconvenient to me as I'm used to regular flip caps.

Application:

This product is creamy but once lathered, it is less foamy compared to your regular cleanser and can be easily rinsed off. I usually squeeze out 1cm size of cleanser onto palm (or at the back of your hand like me), lather with water until you get a foamy consistency. Massage gently onto wet face and gently cleanse for 30 seconds. Wash it off with water thoroughly.

Thoughts:

As you probably noticed on my social media; Instagram, I've been using this cleanser regularly; alternating with my other gentle cleansers in the morning and I do love how less bubbly the foam is as it doesn't dry out my skin even after massaging my skin thoroughly. My skin also feeling nice and smooth afterwards.

Elle Moist Beauty Iris Water-Like Oil

Product Description:

A new revolutionary oil and water balanced skin care. Get a fresh bubbly touch for activating of your nature beautiful skin with extra moisture.

Yet it provides energies upon skin which will result in a better, healthier, glowing skin from inside out. Ingredients list:
Cyclopentasiloxane, Propylene Glycol Isostearate, Isododecane, Argan Oil, Squalane, Caprylyl Methicone, Caprylic / Capric Triglyceride, Alaria Esculenta Extract, Fragrance, Tocopheryl Acetate, Macadamia Ternifolia Seed Oil, Crambe Abyssinica Seed Oil, Orbignya Oleifera Seed Oil, Palmitoyl Dipeptide-10, Palmitoyl Hexapeptide-12, Butylene Glycol, Iris Florentina Root Extract.

How to Use:

  • Daily skincare: after cleanse your face, apply a small amount as a moisturiser and gently massage onto your face neck area till it's well-absorbed into skin. Use with a certain portion of lotion or serum for better hydrated result.
  • With makeup: Mix an ample amount of foundation, apply evenly on face and neck area and gently massage it for fast absorption and long-lasting perfect makeup.
  • Multi-purpose: Apply just a few amount on your lips to avoid cracked lips, apply on hair to protect split ends; massage your entire body with it for a relaxation and refreshing feeling. Minimum product, maximum results.

Capacity: 25ml

Packaging:

As you can see, the box is simply designed; I'd take it as the brand intends to focus more on the product itself, them being their ultimate acne solution skincare products. Do note that these products are to be used within 6 months after opening.

There's English product descriptions at the back and side of the boxes which are nice considering the brand is originating from Taiwan.

There's English product ingredients list at the back with the Expiration and Manufacturing dates printed at the bottom of the box.

The 25ml-worth of product comes in that cute transparent bottle with simple product description on the side of the bottle.

There's also Expiration date printed at the bottom of the bottle too so again, no need to worry about disposing the box. The dropper for the facial oil is actually quite nice as a single pinch of the dropper is sufficient for my whole facial area.

Application:

As you can see above, the face oil is quite lightweight and watery and once spread and massaged well into skin, the finish is actually nice as it's not too greasy or anything, more like nicely hydrated!

Thoughts:

I actually quite liking the face cleanser as it's been a long time since I last tried a cleanser that doesn't dry out my skin but looking the ingredient, I'm a bit disappointed as I have never seen preservatives being listed so far high-up in the list; I believe there's only a small amount of preservative needed and whatever listed after that aren't really effective or proven to be effective or going to take a long time to actually affect the skin condition. Guess I'm going to finish the cleanser to really see the result but I highly doubt I'd see any difference.

As for the face oil, it's nice as it's watery and quickly absorbed into skin but again, even though there's one of the highly-regarded flower mentioned right in the name, it's listed right at the end of the ingredients list so the product itself is not really convincing.

Update: I've tried the face oil by mixing it with a matte foundation and after several tries, I've decided to stick with mixing the face oil with the foundation rather than applying it prior foundation and use hydrating setting spray to finish off.

Thank you so much to allyoung Malaysia and Elle Skincare (Taiwan) for sending these products to me to try. I guess that's all from me. Do let me know your thoughts on these products and  I'll see you guys on my next post, annyeong~

Review | THE FACE SHOP Rice Water Bright Mild Cleansing Water

Tuesday, 12 March 2019

It's been over 5 years since I've started practicing double cleansing as part of my daily evening skincare routine where I'd be using oil-based makeup removers as the first step followed with a water-based facial cleanser hence double cleansing. In recent years, we are seeing lots of non-oil-based makeup removers like cleansing waters, micellar waters even cleansing tissues that don't seem to have oily ingredient in it and often do not require rinsing. That's quite convenient especially on those lazy nights where I'd be too exhausted to do proper cleansing but with most cleansing tissues or wipes often can be quite expensive for daily use, I'd most definitely recommend to go for huge bottles of cleansing water or micellar water.

When I first started using Korean skincare products years ago, I was all over THE FACE SHOP products and I've personally tried every single item from their Rice Water Bright cleansing line. Till today, I'll at least stock several of the cleansers in my skincare stash as back up even using them in between trying other cleansers from other brands and this cleansing water is one of the products that's recently launched; a new addition to the rest of its sisters that have been in the market for many years now but first, let's go to some basic info about this product.

Product Description:
This brightening cleansing water is formulated with carefully selected ingredients to gently remove daily makeup, leaving skin feeling clean.
  • The cleansing water contains carefully selected ingredients for gentle use on skin. Micellar water easily removes makeup and draws out impurities in one simple step-no rinsing required.
  • Simply cleanse and go or rinse with water as a finishing step.
  • It also contains rice extract to brighten your complexion.
How to Use:
  1. Dispense product on cotton pad and wipe skin from centre outwards to remove makeup.
  2. To remove lip and eye makeup, place soaked cotton pad on lips or closed eyes and hold for a few seconds then wipe.
  3. Rinse with water if necessary.
Capacity: 500ml (Available in 320ml)

Ingredients list: Water/Eau, Propanediol, C12-14 Pareth-12, 1,2-Hexanediol, Hexylene Glycol, Diethoxyethyl Succinate, Ethylhexylglycerin, Disodium EDTA, Sodium Hyaluronate, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Germ Extract, Sodium Citrate.

Packaging:

As shown above, the 500ml bottle is actually quite big, heavy and it comes with a basic cap that if you look at it rather closely, you’d noticed that I broke the cap as I accidentally dropped it on the floor. There’s product full description at the back of the bottle in both English and French for your convenience. The expiry date is printed at the bottom of the bottle in YYYYMMDD (year-month-day) format.

APPLICATION

If you’re not comfortable of having to dispense the product in regular way, I’d suggest for the product to be transferred into smaller bottle with reverse pump like that so all I need to do in order to dispense the cleansing water directly onto the cotton pad is to just push it down with.

I’d also prefer to use textured cotton pads as shown above to better trap the impurities and excess makeup.

As mentioned in the product description, this cleansing water is meant to remove daily makeup which to my understanding means tone-up sunscreens, cushion foundations and simple non-waterproof makeup products but I’m going to show you guys how this mild cleansing water works with some of the toughest waterproof makeup I have in my stash; mascara, matte liquid lipstick, liquid eyeshadow tint and cushion foundation.

I’ve dispensed some of the product on the cotton pad and I’ve placed it firmly onto the swatches of the makeup for a good 30 seconds before wiping it off in a single direction. Indeed, the cleansing water is mild, watery, has slight scent to it and definitely non-irritating to my skin.

 THOUGHTS

As you can see in the above photo, the only makeup item that was completely removed is the trace of the cushion foundation with only some of the mascara, the tint of the eyeshadow is still left on skin and as for the lipstick, not much of it removed by the cleansing water.

Therefore I’m going to say outright that I only use this mild cleansing water to remove non-waterproof makeup and daily sunscreens mostly for midday routine, sometimes as pre-cleanse in the evening or whenever I’m too tired to do my full routine, I’d be using the first round of cotton pad to remove all my makeup, the second round to ensure no trace makeup left on my face and then followed up with hydrating toner. I’d usually apply clay mask the next day so I don’t end up with severe blackhead situation.

Overall, I give this product 4/5. I do like this cleansing water as it works well with my skin, removes the sunscreens and simple, non-waterproof makeup products as intended. Although I don’t appreciate the cap, I do like the continuity in its packaging design yet this product comes with clear bottle showing the actual product.

I guess that's all from me. Let me know your thoughts on this product by leaving comments down below. I'll see you guys on my next post. Annyeong~

Review | THE FACE SHOP Rice Water Bright Light Cleansing Oil

Tuesday, 5 March 2019

When it comes to oil cleansers, I'm betting there are lots of you out there who still think that cleansing oils, balms, milks and creams can actually make your skin become oilier or worst, clogged pores due to these cleansers' oily texture but as someone who use oil-based cleansers as first cleanser in double-cleansing method for years, I can totally assure you that it's not true provided that you did not massage your skin for too long (4 minutes maximum!) and use water-based cleanser as second cleanser in your cleansing routine.

As I've mentioned before, there are several types of oil-based cleansers and this cleansing oil is actually the first Korean oil-based cleanser that I've tried and repurchased several times in between trying other cleansers in the market. so first thing first, let's go to basic details on this product.

Product Description:
Refreshing, brightening cleansing oil for oily to combination skin.
  • Brightening deep cleansing oil effectively cleanses away impurities and heavy makeup from skin with its light liquid texture.
  • Plant-based ingredients such as Rice Bran Oil and Jojoba Oil leave skin looking clean and bright.
  • Formulated without Mineral Oil
How to Use:
  1. Apply to dry skin, massaging in a circular motion to dissolve makeup.
  2. Rinse with lukewarm water.
  3. Wash-off with foam cleanser.
Capacity: 150ml

Ingredients list: Isopropyl Myristate, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Sorbeth-30 Tetraoleate, Polyglyceryl-10 diisostearate, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Bran Oil, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Water/Eau, Glycerin, Butylene Glycol, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Extract, Saponaria Officinalis Leaf Extract, Parfum/Fragrance.

APPLICATION

As mentioned in the product description, this cleansing oil is meant to remove daily makeup which to my understanding means tone-up sunscreens, cushion foundations and heavy waterproof makeup products therefore I'm going to show you guys how this mild cleansing oil works with some of the toughest waterproof makeup I have in my stash; mascara, matte liquid lipstick, liquid eyeshadow tint and cushion foundation.

This cleansing oil is indeed light in texture with a slight scent to it which doesn't bother me at all and definitely non-irritating to my skin.

I've dispensed some of the product directly onto the makeup (without adding water to it), usually 3 to 4 pumps for my whole facial area and massage my skin in circular motion for several minutes or until all the makeup melted off with it; the oil changes colour once it's mixed with the makeup.

Then, add some water to emulsify the oil; the oil helps to loosen the dirt off your skin and the emulsifiers (Sorbeth-30 Tetraoleate, Polyglyceryl-10 diisostearate) contained in the product allow the oils to mix with water for you to easily rinse it off.

 THOUGHTS

As you can see in the above photo, the only makeup item that was not completely removed is the tint of the eyeshadow that is still left on skin but as for the rest of the makeup, not even the slightest hint can be seen so I do think this oil cleanser does its job quite well.

Overall, I give this product 4.5/5. I still do like this cleansing oil even after trying so many other oil cleansers in my K-beauty journey as it works well with my skin, removes my sunscreens and most of my makeup products as intended. Its light texture suits my dehydrated normal to oily skin indeed but I think this suits oily skin too.

Double-cleansing method does sounds a bit stretch but believe me, it's the best cleansing method that I've been practicing for years to remove daily applications of sunscreen and all kinds of makeup therefore if you still have not on board with this cleansing method, I hope you do give it a try maybe with a lightly textured oil cleanser like this one.

I guess that's all from me. Let me know your thoughts on this product by leaving comments down below. I'll see you guys on my next post. Annyeong~
