Review | NYX PROFESSIONAL MAKEUP Soft Matte Lip Creams

Thursday, 16 January 2020

Whenever I pick up a series on Netflix, aside from taking a virtual vacation in England during the 15th century with monsters and witches or watching a group of young adults dressing in battle gear fighting demons; I also really enjoy looking at their costumes and makeup so much I often search for YouTube tutorials on it.

With product placements all over these series, I recently discovered a line of lipstick from NYX Professional Makeup that was worn by one of the cast so I picked up several off Hermo and I’m already planning to get several more as it is considerably affordable!

What to love about these liquid lipsticks?

In statement-making matte colors, these nude-based shades of Soft Matte Lip Cream deliver a burst of creamy color that sets with a matte finish.

These are supposedly long-wearing, lightweight and creamy, it seems to me that these sweet scented liquid lipsticks are also NYX Professional Makeup’s fan-favorite.

There are over 35 original shades of pinks, purples, reds, corals, browns and beiges in the line and these high-pigmented, plush matte formula in colors are inspired by cities of the world, surely to flatter any skin tones and for any occasion.

So I got myself 3 shades; #Amsterdam (pure red) for the recent Lunar New Year festivities, #Monte Carlo (deep cranberry red) the character, Isabelle Lightwood had worn throughout the first season of Netflix’s Shadowhunters series and last but not least, #Transylvania (deep violet) because I have admittedly been watching a lot of vampire movies lately.

PACKAGING

The lip product does not come in a box but the whole tube is sealed a in clear plastic casing with English ingredients list printed at the side of the tube for your reference.

There is a Barcode sticker on the cap with the Product Code printed at the top left corner and the Batch Code printed in light grey at the top right corner of the sticker.

There’s usually a small official distributor sticker on the plastic seal with the Manufacturing Date in the format of Month-Year but in case that is not available, you can simply punch the Batch Code number into a cosmetic analyser on the Internet. For example, MFS80W means Aug 2019.

This liquid lipstick can be used for up to 18 months once opened but as it only contains 8ml worth of product, I’m pretty sure I can finish it within several months if I were to use it everyday.

The tubes comes in the respective liquid lipstick colours although I have to point out that the colours on the tubes are not exactly true to the actual shades of the lip products; maybe 90% similar. But with the tubes being so opaque, I cannot tell how much product left in the tube.

There is a sticker with the product code and name at the bottom of the tubes for your convenience. For a few months, I have been placing these lip products horizontally in my acrylic drawers and I’m glad to report that I didn’t see any leaks whatsoever from the tubes which means it is tight enough to prevent oxidation, therefore a huge plus point for me.

Each of these plush matte lip colours comes with a doe-foot foam applicator that just glides on my lips smooth and easy on the wide surface. Twist it a little and you can line out your lip lines rather carefully which is something I love doing as I don’t like bringing separate lip liners or lip brush for neat application.

APPLICATION

All the lip colours here are quite pigmented and wearable for my medium skin tone; probably even for those with skin deeper than mine except maybe #Amsterdam that needs to be mixed with a darker colour to bring down the brightness a bit.

As for the pigmentation, you can almost apply on with the littlest amount of the liquid lipstick yet you can actually layer a couple times (let one layer dry and then swipe on another layer) for a much bolder look. All swatches on upper hand are made with one swipe from each colour.

THOUGHTS

After several tries on all of the lip colours, I found the best way to apply them is by using the applicator itself as it’s more convenient than carrying a lip brush with you.

I’d say there is a need to apply matching lip liners beforehand as the colours are not as pigmented as I hoped them to be. You can definitely use concealers or lip primers underneath to make the colour ‘pop out’ even more.

The finishes might seemed satiny at the beginning as that just gives you some time to properly blend with your choice tools; tip of my fingers for me so it’s easy to smooth over the lip lines but once it dries down, the finish will be properly matte and it is very much possible to layer another application of the lip product for a more intense look.

Both #Amsterdam and #Monte Carlo goes on nicely on lips but when it comes to #Transylvania, I’m going to admit that it goes on patchy and was quite hard to achieve a smooth and even finish.

Overall, 4/5. I love everything about these plush matte lip colours but it goes without saying that I just need to prep my oftenly dry lips properly by exfoliating them regularly and applying ample of lip balms prior. It is common for any liquid lipsticks to dry out the lips so make sure to prep well.

While these lip colours can stay on for many hours with minimum drinking and eating, I still find myself reapplying them throughout the day.

To remove these lip colours, I’d say any lip makeup remover will do including one that I have reviewed previously but you can simply remove them with any oil-based cleanser at one go along with the rest of your makeup at the end of the day.

Review | Elianto Make Up Brilliant Riche Lip Colours

Thursday, 26 September 2019

On regular days when I have lots of time to sit down and touch up my makeup, I'd be all over cream lipsticks; as I'd be carrying at least 3 different ones in my makeup pouch however on event days like weddings or social media influencer gatherings, I'd be selecting waterproof, long-wearing makeup; from base to point makeup as I usually be taking photos and mingling around so I wouldn't have much time to fix my makeup.

I just got back from a makeup showcase by Hosiani Keewon (hosianikeewon_official) held at Elianto Make Up store in Imago KK Times Square and I personally got to see how she used several products from the brand on her model. While waiting for the event to start, I went around the store; testing some some of their base makeup products and then discovered these liquid lipsticks from the brand that not only easy to apply, quick to set but also stays on quite well on my lips. But first thing first, let's go to some basic information on the product.

Elianto Brilliant Riche Lip Colour #312 Ballerina Pink and #315 Flamingo

  • Vibrant matte shades with filming polymers and volatile oils for a natural, kiss-proof performance.
  • Bright pops of colour make a statement in intensely rich, vivid shades.
  • In one stroke of pure colour, the sensorial creamy fluid shapes lips with an extremely light veil. The weightless micro-fine pigments in a gelled system guarantee a smooth glide when applying. The colour adheres to lip, dries quickly and lasts longer, leaving a comfortable, smooth and transfer-resistant finish.
  • Lips remain soft and velvety, while the colour is long-lasting and transfer-free. With a flexible finish, lips remain evenly coloured, enhancing the wearer’s chosen mood.
  • Filming polymer in volatile oil also ensures application is smooth and comfortable, while maintaining the satin glaze.

Ingredients list:
Isododecane, Octyldodecanol, Dicalcium Phosphate, Hydrogenated Styrene / Isoprene Copolymer, Stearalkonium Hectorite, Alcohol, Sesamum Indicum (Sesame) Seed Oil, Aqua, Melia Azadirachta Seed Oil, Tin Oxide, Pentaerythrityl Tetra-Di-t-Butyl Hydroxyhydrocinnamate, Boswellia Serrata Oil, BHT

Packaging:

The lip products come on in their respective sleek black boxes with simple design and there’s English product description printed at one side of the box for your reference.

These products can be used up to 24 months after opened, are not tested on animals, paraben-free and the shelf life is 3 Years from Manufacturing Date.

These lip products come in long, transparent tubes so it’s easy to spot which is which but there is the product label at the bottom of the tubes respectively. Lipstick also comes with doe-foot applicator that applies the creamy lip colour nice and smoothly on lips.

Application:

As you can see, both lip colours are bright but still wearable for my medium skin tone. While Ballerina Pink goes on smoothly, Flamingo does seems patchy a little bit. Both swatches on upper hand are made with one swipe from each colour.

Thoughts:

After several tries for both lip colours, the best way to apply them is to stretch my lips while applying them for the products to go on nicely or I’d end up with uneven, patchy lips as these set quite quickly.

As the colours are bold and bright, I’d say there is no need to apply lip liners beforehand so just line the outer lips first before evening out the inner area of the lips. You can definitely use concealers to make the colour ‘pop out’ even more.

Overall, 4/5. I do love everything about these lip colours but I just need to prep my oftenly dry lips properly by applying ample of lip balms prior these – pretty common for any liquid lipsticks, really. Definitely going to purchase other wearable colours. I've also seen some reviews on the Internet that these tend to dry out rather quickly compared to other liquid lipsticks so I guess I'd better be sticking to habit of not letting these opened for too long even while applying them.

What about you guys? Would you prefer using liquid lipsticks like these or you're still on those good 'ol bulleted lipsticks? Tell me in the comment section below!

Review | Laneige Serum Intense Lipstick in Shine Brown

Sunday, 18 September 2016
I gotta admit that I've been having this lipstick for about 2 years (I was trying really hard to remember when did I got this from mom) and it went deep into my makeup stash. I totally had forgotten about it until yesterday when I was looking for my Laneige eyeshadow kit palette that I got as a sample and that's when I saw it sitting prettily next to each other.

The previous Holiday edition of Laneige BB Cushion is still pretty to me. I hope this year's design will be way prettier~

Review | THE FACE SHOP Black Label Lipstick in No. 13

Saturday, 13 August 2016
It's been raining for almost everyday for the past week~ I'm loving it! With hot green tea latte, on bed all day with just one good book, I'm all for it! of course, we all have to work despite it's raining cats and dogs out there. haha Anyway, finally~ I'm back with a review! It's been more that 6 months, I know! Caught up with zillion things ever since I started working and only the past few weeks I sought the strength to sort my vanity (truth be told, I'm not done yet!) and after literally hoarding containers from Daiso, I managed to sort 80% of my beauty stash. Phew!

Anyway, I received this lipstick about a month ago and as I got some free time this morning,  I managed to take some photos though they're not well-lit as I only got sunshine for a good hour before it started to rain again.

Drugstore Haul | Maybelline Malaysia

Saturday, 2 April 2016
I think it's safe to say that my hauls for this year is more on makeup rather than skincare unlike the past few years as I'm getting more and more interested on applying makeup by myself plus ever since I started working, the need to appear presentable in front of others is always there but all the more reason to do makeup for me is actually having fun by myself.

Review | NYX Lip Smacking Fun Colors in Frappucino, Tea Rose and B52

Saturday, 1 November 2014
Hello, lovelies! How's your weekend so far? Or, wait! How's last night Halloween party? I did a little shopping yesterday and dear God, staffs at Avenue K was wearing Halloween makeup and I was so surprised when he turned to face me! The makeup artists at Sephora went all out with their Halloween makeups as well!

Anyway, today I'm going to do my first lipstick review! I never done this before though so I'm just gonna go with what I know, okay! hehe

In the website, these lippies fall in the category under Extra Creamy Round Lipstick but on the case it's labeled as Lip Smacking Fun Colors so my guessing is maybe the brand has different name for other lipsticks under the same category.
