Review: Etude House Sun Prise Cotton Touch Powder Cream SPF50% PA+++

Sunday 16 November 2014
Annyeong, everyone! How's your weekend so far? It's been raining like almost everyday here in Malaysia so I have to admit that the lazy feeling just creeps on me along with my blanket. hmm..

Definitely not a good thing.

I know everyone's working on their either New Year's or Christmas or for me, New Semester's Wishlist right now so make sure to plan your shopping for you and your loved ones!

If you're reading my haul posts, I bet you've noticed that my recent hauls are mostly filled with makeup items as I've been showing more interest on that plus my skincare routine for the past few months is actually quite the same.

Hence, today I'm going to review a product released by Etude House quite a few years before  (as the whole Sun Prise line has been upgraded for the better I hope) which is this Sun Prise Cotton Touch Powder Cream with SPF50+ PA+++.

One look, you could have mistakenly took it as a hand cream, am I right?
Product Description:

UV Defense moisturizer maintains whipped cream texture with powdery finish to conceal imperfections and absorb oil.
Formulated with  Grapefruit Extract for antioxidant and revitalizing care.
Can be used daily as a makeup primer for all-day sun defense.

How to use:
Apply moisturizer to sun exposed areas of the face or body and massage into skin

Net Weight: 40g

Packaging:

The box!

As you can see above photos, the product comes in that box with yellow representing the colour of sunshine I assume with pink colour that suggest playfulness and of course how the illustration goes with the shades and whatnot.

At the back of the box, there's the ingredient list. This product does contains fragrance so if you're sensitive, might want to consider this one carefully.

Like most cosmetics, used right after dispensed and within 12 months after opened.

The product also comes in a tube with the same style of illustration as the box that also looks like your ordinary Korean made hand creams. I don't really know what's the tube is made of but it feels like aluminium whereby it's kind of soft to squeeze but it doesn't really go back to its original shape after being squeezed.

Though.. you might wanna keep the box just in case, as the quick info at the back of the tube is all written in Korean. No biggie if you could read and understand Hangul. hehe

There's the manufacturing date printed at the top of the tube so if you're considering buying this while you're on the store, do check that it's still has at least one year left from the estimated expiring date (usually 3 years after manufacturing date).

Again, like most hand creams, this product comes with that twisting (is that the right term? Let me know!) cap.

Swatch:

I usually squeeze out about that amount to cover my whole face area. If you look closely, it's actually kind of pinkish.

Left: Looks and do feel creamy but actually the texture is also powdery (have you guys ever mix icing sugar and egg whites for cakes? Before these two really mixed, the product's texture feels like that!!) and you really have to spread well across your skin just like in the right photo.

Left: Bare-faced. Right: with the product applied on.

Verdict:

According to the product description, this product is a moisturizer that helps with concealing imperfections and absorb oil. Which tells me that this product functions as moisturizer and primer at the same time as it can conceal imperfections and absorb oil plus as a sunscreen product as it has high SPF for sun protection.

But as you can see in the above photos, it doesn't really cover my imperfections, nor it works as moisturizer.

I have normal-oily skin and the product doesn't really help with my T-Zone areas as my skin still feel oily on that area and my BB Cream doesn't last longer than I expected.

What I can say is that this product is actually acting like a pinkish veil that gives me sun protection.

I used the product with my BB Cream and Any Cushion but unfortunately it does not last for a long time, more like 3 to 4 hours. It fades or should I say melted away.. Especially on my T-zone area. Not a pleasant view I should say..
Not really a good primer I guess as I was hoping it can help in making my makeup last longer. Sadly, no.

Left: No flash, indoor lighting at night. Right: With flash. Same place.
(Open the image in the new tab to see the white cast really closely)

As the product contains high SPF, of course, on its own, there's gonna be white cast if you take the photo with the flash on, but there's quite a difference if you applied the product under your BB Cream. Maybe the thick consistency of the BB cream helps in reducing the white cast but not only that, the pinkish colour also changes the BB Cream shades.
Probably an indicator that the product doesn't really blend that well, more like just sitting on top of each other...
I don't really know how to explain this but that's how I see it. hmm.

My overall experience isn't really pleasant with this product, other than using it because of its really nice fragrance, which I don't mind,  and for the sun protection as I use the product before applying my powder pact which only contains SPF15 i.e just to finish it or use within 12 months, I suppose.

Thankfully, I didn't break out while using the product.

Final verdict: 2.5/5. I know I'm being generous, but knowing Etude House has came up with the Face Conditioning Creams and of course Magic Any Cushions, separating the moisturizing function from the colour correcting function of this product. In my opinion, they should stay separated. All-in-one product isn't really my thing honestly.

Which is also why I don't see the product being repackaged or upgraded into the new Sun Prise line. The closest one (in terms of function) would be the Natural Corrector that works like Laneige White Plus Renew Tone-Up Corrector, though I haven't found out what's the difference between the two actually. I'll let you know once I tried at the store.

The product was (discontinued already) retailed at RM70++ if I'm not mistaken and I'm pretty sure it was on Etude House Malaysia April Sweeties Club Promotion whereby this product has been offered at RM19.90.

So tell me, have you tried this product before? Should I use it in another different way? Do let me know if you're using this product, whether you love or hate it, okay!

Until next post, au revoir!
